UltraVPN is an open source software application that implement a VPN (virtual private network), based on OpenVPN. It allows peers to authenticate each other using a secure key by way of SSL (secure sockets layer) security protocol; as a result your network connection is encrypted and anonymised. In this way it gets around NATs (network address translators) and firewalls. It might be used where access to the Internet is restricted or blocked.
There are no restrictions on usage, but the bandwidth is given a ceiling so which is only good practice as you are sharing servers.
To use it you need the software client on your computer and access to the Internet. There are two clients to select from: Microsoft Windows or Mac OS X and you can also download the source code. Installation is quick. Download your client of choice, you will see a ticked list of components to include, then set up and account – just username and password. There is no account authentication.
You can sign in immediately and that is it you are anonymously on the Internet. There are two modes for the client to run in one is a straight proxy and the other is ‘stealthy’.
Pros: Easy to use, simple to set up.
